A few years ago, I ordered a Lightroom serial key from a third party website. It cost me an arm and a leg—more than any subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud you'll find on Amazon, anyways. I've been using Adobe Lightroom since it first came out in 2006, and I still think it's the best piece of photo editing software on the market. It's certainly one of the most important tools for managing digital images—and it's something that every serious photographer should have. Adobe needs to do a better job at keeping its customers—like me—happy, though. While I appreciate the fact that Lightroom is cross-platform, and includes export options for both photo sharing sites like Flickr and Facebook, it's still not as polished as Photoshop by any stretch of the imagination. Sometimes it crashes, other times the interface takes too long to render. Even worse, I've had numerous issues with Lightroom having trouble recognizing my subscription plan when I first installed it on my computer. And then there's the biggest issue of all: the cost. Right now, a single-user, ad-free subscription to Lightroom costs $120. That's a pretty high price to pay for what appears—at least to me—to be an unfinished product. More often than not, I find myself gravitating towards Google Photos as a more user-friendly tool for basic photo management and editing. But as long as I have both apps installed on my computer, I still prefer using Lightroom for my more intensive projects. So I was pretty stoked when I found out that a single-user, ad-free subscription to Adobe Lightroom CC was going for a little over half the price of what I paid for my old serial key. The free trial period also included a Feature Map for Lightroom, which lets you see the edits you've made to various photos in real time. It can be pretty cool, especially if you take lots of photos with your smartphone each day. Still, it's not exactly cheap to buy Adobe Lightroom and live off the free features and updates forever—especially since there's no guarantee that Adobe will keep supporting it in future years. I've been a very loyal Adobe customer for a long time, and I have no intention of switching to another photo editor anytime soon. At least not while Google Photos is still trying to catch up to Lightroom's superior photo management features. I hope Adobe will bring back some of the more advanced features from the old days—like the ability to add soft borders around your images—in future releases. I also hope it will add some sort of gesture-based editing tool, which was briefly available on the iPad version before Adobe pulled it from its App Store. cfa1e77820
